MV Sea Salt Featured Author Celebrates New Book with Signing Saturday
Looking for new recipes to brighten up these February days? Head down to the Bunch of Grapes Bookstore in Vineyard Haven this Saturday, February 15, at 3 p.m. to meet Martha’s Vineyard farmer and author Susie Middleton, who regularly contributes recipes to the Martha’s Vineyard Sea Salt website like Quick-Roasted Cauliflower with Sea Salt and Optional Garlic-Lime-Cilantro Butter and Gingery Stir-Fried Carrots that all pair wonderfully with our locally-made sea salt. Middleton is the former editor (and current editor-at-large) for Fine Cooking magazine. Six years ago, she picked up, left her suburban life, and moved to West Tisbury, where she started a small farm. (Hmm, sounds like a familiar story…) She shares all the ups and downs of that story in her new book Fresh from the Farm: A Year of Recipes and Stories, released this week. Part memoir, part cookbook, Fresh from the Farm features 125 recipes that put fresh, local ingredients front and center. On Saturday, Middleton will celebrate the launch at Bunch of Grapes, where she will read from Fresh from the Farm, answer questions, and provide a cooking demonstration with tastings. In advance of the event, she’s offered us a sneak peek at one of Fresh from the Farm’s tasty new recipes, featured here as an early exclusive for readers of Martha’s Vineyard Sea Salt. Scroll down to find Susie’s recipe for Cinnamon Caramelized Pears , which call for a bit of sea salt to complement the sweetness of the pears. The dish would make a perfect end to a home-cooked Valentine’s Day celebration.
Be sure to join us Saturday at Bunch of Grapes! Not in town? Don’t worry – Susie’s book tour is taking her to upcoming stops at La Cuisine Cookware Store in Alexandria, Virginia, on March 1 and to a March 2 book signing at the Dupont Circle Farmers’ Market in Washington, D.C.
